About the author
Daniel Whitmore

Daniel Whitmore writes about hoaxes, forgeries and the mysteries nobody has managed to close.
The Greatest Hoaxes in History started with a small irritation. Most accounts of famous frauds stop at the moment of exposure, as though the trick were the interesting part. It never is. The interesting part is the years in between, when careful and well-informed people looked at the very same evidence and concluded that it was real.
These books follow one rule. Set out what the people at the time actually saw, in the order they saw it, and leave the judging to the reader. Where the record closes a case, it is closed and the work is shown. Where it does not, the book says so and stops there.
Several of these stories have no ending, and you will not be told what to think about them.
